Jammin' in Bamako

On our last evening in Bamako, Fode surprised us by engaging this duo, on Kora and drum, to come play and sing for us at the house. What a great surprise. They were totally laid back, and not the least bit put out when Doria began to play along with them on this tiny one-string banjo uke-sort of thing whose name we've forgotten. Easier to just pick up than the 21-string kora! (notice Doria's henna'd hands!)

We spent one day driving around in the High Atlas north of Marakesh... in the little market area near Sidi Fatma we ran into this threesome playing traditional music on drums and a four-string banjo so of course I needed to jam with them a bit....

I've got a lot less time to find a Cyber and post than I'd expected... way too much to do and see... I think the real blogging of this trip will happen after I get back home.
